Injury results in more than 5,000,000 deaths and causes permanent disability in as many as 250,000,000 people living in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) each year.
LMIC health and rehabilitation systems are often poorly equipped to respond to this epidemic due to resource constraints. Young men, at their peak of economic productivity, are the most common victims of injury, inciting a vicious cycle of poverty.
Fortunately, injury is preventable. Studying injury leads to understanding of contributing factors, which permits generation of evidence-based interventions to prevent the cause, lessen the severity, and improve the clinical outcomes of injured patients.
We are an international, interdisciplinary collaboration of academics and professionals developing innovative, efficient, and impactful solutions in LMICs to decrease the global burden of injury worldwide.
